The Next Glashütte Sixties Chronograph 2026

The Next Glashütte Sixties Chronograph 2026

For the eighth year in a row, Glashütte Original is preparing to unveil a new addition to its Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition series. Set to release later this month, the 2026 edition continues a tradition collectors have come to anticipate by using familiar vintage-inspired design as a canvas for some of the brand’s most distinctive dial work. This year, that tradition arrives in purple. The new Glashütte Original Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition 2026 is a strong example of that approach.

At first glance, the standout feature is obvious: a rich purple dial that immediately sets this release apart from previous annual editions. It’s an unexpected color choice, especially within the world of traditional German watchmaking, where restraint often takes priority over experimentation. But this isn’t simply a bold color for the sake of attention.

The shade was developed in-house by Glashütte Original’s own dial manufactory and draws inspiration from the visual language of the 1960s, specifically the era’s deep connection to music culture. Album covers, concert posters, and the psychedelic design movement all embraced saturated violet tones, making the color a natural extension of the Sixties collection’s vintage character. What makes the dial especially interesting is how much work goes into creating it.

The process begins with thin bronze blanks that are embossed before being milled to create the collection’s signature fine groove texture. Glashütte Original refers to this as a “vinyl” finish, and the comparison fits. The parallel lines evoke the grooves of a record, reinforcing the musical inspiration behind the watch. The dial is then carefully domed, coated galvanically in gold, and finished with translucent purple lacquer applied by hand before being kiln-fired. The hour markers are manually incised rather than applied, allowing the warm bronze beneath to subtly show through.

That level of dial work is what separates annual editions like this from simple color updates. The rest of the watch provides a familiar stage for that craftsmanship. The polished 42 mm stainless steel case keeps the curved silhouette that defines the Sixties Chronograph line, while the domed sapphire crystal enhances the vintage profile. Gold-plated hands follow the contour of the crystal, adding warmth that pairs naturally with the purple dial.  Inside is the automatic Glashütte Original Calibre 39-34, a movement that has become a reliable foundation for the collection. Visible through the sapphire caseback, it features the details collectors expect from Glashütte Original: Glashütte stripe finishing, beveled edges, polished screws, and the signature swan-neck fine adjustment.

What makes this release significant is that it reinforces something Glashütte Original has done particularly well for years. Instead of chasing dramatic redesigns, the brand continues to show how thoughtful execution and material craftsmanship can give a familiar watch an entirely different personality. For collectors, that’s part of what makes these annual editions compelling. The Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition 2026 doesn’t try to reinvent the collection. It proves that when enough attention is given to the details, even a single dial can make a watch feel entirely new.
